Use Frankfurt Airport’s free SkyLine system between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Terminal 2 is currently closed, so older guides that route transfers through T2 may be outdated.
Why 2026 changed the airport
Terminal 3 began operations in April 2026 and airlines previously based in Terminal 2 moved there. Always re-check the airline terminal on travel day.
Protected connection versus self-transfer
A protected airline connection may have a defined transfer path. Separate tickets can add baggage reclaim, landside movement, check-in and security; treat that as a different trip.
Do not budget only the train ride
Walking to the station, waiting, border/security steps and gate distance can take longer than the people-mover ride itself.
Use the new airport layout, not old T2 advice
Terminal 2 is currently closed and airlines formerly using it have moved into the new Terminal 3 operation. That makes older forum answers and maps easy to misread. Verify whether your onward gate is in T1 areas A–C/Z or T3 areas G/H/J, then follow current airport transfer signs and the SkyLine route rather than an archived Terminal 2 path.
Sources and verification
Time-sensitive airport, airline, visa, security and transport details should always be confirmed with the relevant official source before travel.
